Natal Ascendant in Aquarius

First Decanate (Aquarius-Aquarius): Their self-projection into creativity is very unconventional and original. They are eager to present new ideas of man's right to be himself and his right to individualized self-expression. They stand out in a crowd as being different and unique, either in looks or in how they dress. They are ahead of the times and are considered original and creative or erratic and radical. They will brave public opinion to retain their very prized individuality.
With Leo-Leo on the Descendant, the ego must shine through, with and in the marriage. They must be proud of the partner, and they need love in marriage. They tend to want to dominate the partner, but chances are just as great that they will pick people who will want to dominate them. If this happens they should give each other certain freedoms in marriage and live their own individual accomplishments.
Second Decanate (Aquarius-Gemini): They are friendly, and their self-projection seems light and easy. You feel as if you have known this Aquarius-Gemini for a long time. Their friendliness remains detached, however, and doesn't get very deep. They need to be free and on the move. One time you see them and the next time they are gone. They can express themselves well and make very clever and artful statements. They love others, but more with their minds, and never seem to get beyond the surface of any relationship... unless other configurations say differently. They seem to be geared for the many instead of just the few. They stir others' minds to new and better things. They are the catalysts.
With Leo-Sagittarius on the Descendant, they are not exactly easy to get into a marriage contract. If and when they do get married, it is because there is much friendship involved and the ability to communicate new and advanced studies exists. They need spouses they are proud of and with whom they share their ideas as to what life is all about. First, the need is comradeship and love. They feel if they have this, sex will surely follow.
Third Decanate (Aquarius-Libra): They seek truth and fight hard for the equality of man. They remain independent and free, even though they are very friendly and exceptionally understanding and kind. They identify with each, but still maintain very strong originality. Their curiosity to acquire more and more knowledge is insatiable.
With Leo-Aries on the Descendant, they want people in their environment to be proud of their marriage partners. It satisfies their own ego when they talk proudly about this great partner they have. They are original in their ideas and expressions and seem relatively independent and free to people who do not know them better, but they can be dominated by the partners.

He excels in the lighter sciences and the fine arts, and especially in decorative art and industrial science. He figures in reunions and social gatherings. He is sober and placid in temperament, devoid of unruly passion or excess. He has success in foreign lands, and also in the pursuit of science and literature. He gains property, and has a taste for construction. His life is marked by an even and temperate course.
Second Decanate: The mind is bent on scientific and philosophical pursuits. Great depth of thought and extreme patience are characteristics of this person. Inventive faculty applied to medicine and hygiene is productive of success. Mathematical science, astronomy, and occult research are indicated; independent spirit, penetrating mind, power of assimilation. A lover of solitude and of learned society. Fortune by science or art. Slow but sure success. The native enjoys a fair name and good reputation.
Third Decanate: A melancholy individual, disposed to solitude and nocturnal life. Changeful in fancy; inclined to the lugubrious, to strange terrors and weird experiences, visions, and hallucinations. Women are likely to cause evil in the life of this person, who wanders from place to place. Danger of feeble or afflicted vision; long voyages; peculiar and fantastic appetities.
Physical Qualities: Aquarius gives a tall, full figure with a fine stature and well-formed body; a fine, clear or ruddy complexion; blue or brown eyes; light-colored, brown or flaxen hair which soon becomes thin, especially on the temples, but in women tends to be very abundant and can be of a beautiful blonde color; an oval-shaped face; defects in the teeth; produces the second finest types of beauty after Libra.
Mental Qualities: Kind, humane, retiring, patient; fond of literature and science; frequently a good singer or musician; quiet, happy disposition; love for humanising influences, surroundings, and pursuits; very fond of a few people; excellent friends. From the moral standpoint this sign on the Ascendant gives benevolence, cheerfulness and liveliness. The native is impulsive, energetic and enterprising; is gifted with fine intellectual and practical qualities, and has a strong personality. He knows exactly what he wants; his ideas are firmly established, and my incline him to be self-opinionated. He has good chances of success in politics, or in some prominent position. He may also have a taste for the fine Arts, and if the horoscope on the whole confirms it may progress in this direction. Marriage is usually fortunate, but he may be widowed. As regards family, the native suffers premature losses.

Aquarians are original, creative, independent, wishing to make their own unique contribution to the common good. They are at the same time fun-loving, people-oriented, and friendly in an impersonal way. They are modest and do not like to call undue attention to themselves. They would rather be loved than admired. They find their source of power in group activity within a close circle of friends.
With Leo on the 7th house cusp, marriage and business partners who are powerful and well-established are attracted to Aquarians and occasionally dominate them. Aquarians are very independent, however, and this domination is never carried to the point of suppression. The marriage partners are generally amorous and have their own place in the sun.

Ironically, those with Aquarius on the Ascendant (the point of self-awareness) gain a clearer sense of their own unique and particular identiy through standing back and taking an objective and impersonal look at life. Viewing events, people, circumstances and even themselves from a detached perspective affords them a more global or complete picture of the plan of things. A greater awareness of 'the group' and a heightened sense of the social context in which they function supersedes a purely subjective or personal frame of reference.
Aquarius is co-ruled by Saturn and Uranus. The Saturn side of Aquarius rising may look to a group to enhance its own sense of identity or importance. Along with this comes concerns about belonging to the 'right' group, doing the 'right' things, etc.. The more Uranian side of Aquarius on the Ascendant, however, may feel it is inappropriate to conduct the life solely for augmenting or bolstering personal security or power. Something larger than the individual self needs to be considered.
On this basis, more than any other Ascending sign, Aquarius rising can act in accordance with what he or she feels will support or improve the functioning of the greater whole. The sign of Aquarius has been associated with the myth of Prometheus. Believing that humankind could be better off than it already was, Prometheus stole fire from the gods to give to man. Similarly, Aquarius rising can best meet life with a sense of hope and vision of a new future: a belief that with the application of the right theories or concepts, circumstances could be improved. But just as Prometheus is punished by the existing powers for his defiant deed, some modern-day Prometheans may be condemned, mistreated or even imprisoned for theories or actions which transgress or threaten the established authority. And yet, it is the nature of life that old structures and paradigms, when outlived or past their usefulness, give way to fresh patterns and ideas. Aquarius rising is often in tune with the latest trends and new ideas in the atmosphere.
Usually the ideals associated with Aquarius rising are egalitarian - brotherhood, sisterhood, solidarity, fairness, equality and justice for all. For these ends, Aquarius on the Ascendant may assume the cause of segments of society which the existing system condemns or oppresses. Sometimes the vision of this Ascendant is too idealistic and underestimates the force of the more greedy, territorial and acquisitive nature of people. Similarly, those with this Rising sign are often ill-at-ease with irrational and self-centred emotions in themselves or others which conflict with their noble and utopian theories.
Leo on the Descendant is the shadow side of Aquarius on the Ascendant. Beneath the cool objectivity and the egalitarian ideals of Aquarius may lurk the Leo urges for personal power and recognition. Those with Aquarius rising, with all their love of equality and freedom, are often attracted to prestigious and influential people. There may even be a tendency to use others as a means of gaining strength, power and importance (Leo on the 7th). For all their lack of self-centredness, they may sulk for hours if somebody makes them look silly at a party. (The other person will probably get the cold shoulder for days.) Leo feels passionately and intensely and uses its own sense of self, honour and prestige as a primary frame of reference. To avoid some form of Leo backlash, either from within or from without, Aquarius rising is well-advised not to overly denigrate the Leo approach to life. With Aquarius, there is the danger that the needs of the efficiently functioning system will take precedence over the uniqueness, humanness and creative individuality of those who must fit into it. Taken to extremes, the Aquarian dream could too easily turn into an Orwellian nightmare.
Physically, Aquarius rising tends toward a broad build with clear, refined, light and open features. Often there is an electric or magnetic charge in the aura.
