Magnetism (manipulating cause and effect)

Magnetism – one of the elementary forms of energy generated by the motion of electrons or electric currents and characterized by the attraction exerted on certain substances such as iron. (Like attracts like in the unseen world)
Phenomenon of magnetic attraction has been known since ancient times in connection with loadstone (F3O4), attracting particles of the same mineral and iron. Pieces of the mineral, if suspended by a thread, will orient themselves in a definite position with respect to the axis of the Earth and will return to the same position if moved.
If soft iron is stroked with one of the polar ends of a loadstone, the metal will then exhibit the same properties as the loadstone (this or by electricity, artificial magnet); tempered steel or special alloys magnetized by electricity (permanent magnet)
The Essence of Magick is Magnetism. Understand magnetism and you understand magick.

Unmagnetized substances are attracted by either pole.
Surrounding any magnet is a field of force which is strongest in the immediate vicinity of the magnet and progressively weaker at greater distances from the magnet.
Spinning of electrons in atoms gives electrons a “magnetic moment” and that in substances like iron there are more electrons spinning in one direction than another with result that substance shows magnetic properties.
When iron is magnetized, “entire domains” of atoms in which “magnetic moments” are parallel, apparently act together and reinforce each other.
Neutrons, which are electrically neutral subatomic particles, possess “magnetic moments” in spite of their lack of charge. (This remains unexplained by theory)
Magnetism- flows same direction as electrical current.
Permanent magnet – neither attracts nor repels (current alternates)

Occult Magnetic Magick
When we speak of magnetic energies or forces in an occult context, we are speaking of the metaphysical counterpart as it manifests in the physical dimension.
Among initiates, the magnetic force is perceived as an extremely refined substance that can be controlled and directed by the mind. It can be condensed and stored within inanimate objects. These objects then become charged objects. Liquids of any kind, and all metals, readily accept and store an occult magnetic charge. Wood or wood products will accept a charge, but will not store it for long periods of time. Silk is the only known material that will not accept or store this type of charge. This is why silk has been used since ancient times as insulation against occult magnetic charges and magnetic contamination. Thus it is useful to wrap charged objects in silk so that the magnetic charge does not leak away from the object, or mixed with the energy of other charged objects.
The power to employ occult magnetism can also be termed fascination or enchantment. Basically there are two methods of using personal magnetism. One is to impregnate the aura of another person with a thought-form generated by your own mind. The other is to persuade the individual so that their own personal will shapes the thoughtform. This may be accomplished by accumulating energy within your own aura for projection, by physically touching the other person, by projection of the magickal vapor through your eyes, or by the tonal quality of your voice.
The vibrational tones of the voice carry personal magnetism, stimulating the etheric substance of astral light. There is a direct link to the spoken word and to the breath. From an occult perspective the element of air is the mediating element between electrical and magnetic energy. Through slow deep breathing and emotional arousal, the blood accumulates odic energy from the pranic atmosphere around us. This charged blood passes through the lungs imparting magnetic energy into the breath. When merged with the personal desire of the individual, a powerful though-form can be created within this magnetic field. It can be projected out through the eyes by focusing upon a person or an object, holding in the breath and visualizing a stream of vapor passing out through the eyes as though you are passing out through them. The key to employing elemental energy is strongly linked to controlled breathing because the breath can be strongly charged with odic energy.
Warming the breath (from a deep inhale) carries an electrical charge, and a cool breath (blown from a shallow puff of air) carries a magnetic charge. This is apparent when the breath is applied to another person just at the base of their cerebellum. A puff will send a magnetic current into the person’s aura, resulting in an electrical response. Usually this is annoying to the person and so you get a startled reaction, an electrical snap. A slow exhale from deep within the lungs sends an electrical current resulting in a magnetic response. This is usually an erotic response, the receptive magnetic energy associated with sexual submission.
When employing odic breath in connection with any life-form, an opposite polarity will result: magnetic breath evokes an electrical response and an electrical breath evokes a magnetic response. When using breath charges on inanimate objects, the active charge is delivered without a polarity response. An exception to this rule is any inanimate object already bearing a magickal charge, or any magnetized object. Essentially you will want to bear in mind that magnetic energies draw, and electrical energies vitalize. With experimentation you will find that magnetic energies can sometimes deflect directed charges, just as electrical energies can sometimes cause inertia.
For healing purposes you will generally want to use a magnetic breath so that the electrical response will accelerate the healing process. This is particularly effective with wounds, burns and other short-term injuries. An electrical breath is best used in the healing of long-term illness only in conjunction with other magickal techniques. The magnetic response is useful in allowing the illness to be receptive to other types of magickal energy directed toward the patient. Electrical breath will also enhance the effects of medication.
The Vaporous Magick
The term “vaporous magick” refers to an etheric substance generated from the circulatory system into the lungs. One aspect of vaporous magick is related to occult magnetism and is known as fascination or enchantment. As with occult magnetic energy in general, vaporous magick is raised by odic breath and launched through the eyes, the renowned magickal gaze. In many cultures this power was feared and came to be known as the “evil eye” (Note: Be warned who you inflict this on) People who fell under the influence of vaporous magick were said to be bewitched.
The ancients believed that mysterious forces darted from the eyes of envious or angry persons. This energy, often seen as malevolent, contaminated the atmosphere around the person to whom it was directed. The ability of a glance to transmit power is a widespread belief throughout Europe. In Italy it is often referred to as the jettarore. People particularly feared the power of sorcerers to enchant livestock by their magickal glance. For this reason, ornamental charms were hung on horses, cattle and other livestock. Such charms, traditionally made with shiny reflective surfaces, were thought to dispel the evil eye.
The ancients believed that the power to enchant through the eyes was more pronounced in women. In modern Italy, however, folklore prescribes, as a protection, the carrying of the herb rue, a wolf’s tail, a piece of onion, or the root of an herb known as Lady’s Glove. Italian folklore also holds that to avert the magickal glance, one need only quickly dart two extended fingers toward the perpetrator.
In ancient Rome, charms known as fascinum were devised as protections against the magickal glance. The most popular was a small hand which is closed, the thumb protruding between the fore and middle fingers. It is one of the oldest forms still in use today, and relates to phallic symbolism. The god Fascinus was worshipped under the form of a phallus and he was associated with the sea. For this reason, the hand charm is traditionally made from coral, particularly red coral. Red is the color of life and vitality, an energy that protects against misfortune or decline.
The fact that the magickal glance can be used for healing and other positive forms of magick has been lost in folklore following the rise of Christianity. Magick was, and still is, discouraged by the Church, and therefore all acts of magick have come to be viewed as malevolent. Modern Italian Witches typically employ vaporous magick for healing illness and for charging items with personal power. It is particularly effective when combined with the magical emanation of moonlight.
