  • SO YOU WANT TO FLY - HERE ARE SOME TIPS THAT WILL HELP Flying

  • One of the most common and sought after feats in lucid dreaming is taking flight. For beginners the flight itself is an achievement that they will remember for a long time and for advanced lucid dreamers it is a means to travel long distances in short time without having to teleport.

    How to Fly.

Like with anything else, learning to fly takes practice and the best idea is to take baby steps; don't expect to fly at will the first time that you leave the ground. Here are some of the common steps taken by lucid flyers.
    .
    Gliding
The most common first step is using your arms to glide. Similarly to how hang gliding is taught in real life, a gentle slope is the perfect place to practice. It allows you to be off of the ground, but not so high that your mind begins to panic. Remember, adrenaline is a dream killer.

Take a running start and jump into the air, spreading your arms like wings. You should be able to stay airborne, as you glide over the ground. Let "gravity" pull you and your arms keep you up. For the first run you probably just want to let your dream do all of the work and not try to steer.

You can use your arms to steer and even flap them like wings to gain altitude. For the first couple you don't want to go too high or you might wake up.
    .
    Swimming
The next common step in learning to fly is using the air like water and breast stroking through it. You may want to use your gliding approach to actually get airborne, most find it difficult to leave the ground with this approach; but once you are up there try swimming through the air. It may help to visualize your entire world underwater.

It's not very fast, but it works and now you have complete control over which direction you travel instead of letting "gravity" pull you.
    .
    Levitating
Now that you know that you can fly in your dreams, you need to learn how to get off of the ground without relying on a drop or a hill to get speed while gliding. Usually jumping into the air works for more experience dreamers, usually not a real jump; just a flex of the calf muscles should get you up.

This is probably the hardest part of learning to fly at will other than first getting up when you started learning the skill.

Remind yourself that there is no gravity in your world, it only exists because you are making it exist. It may help you to imagine yourself in water like you did when you were learning to swim through air. This way you know that you are neutrally buoyant and should be able to leave the ground with no trouble.
    .
    Jumping
Lots of people start off by jumping. By jumping higher and higher you are reminding yourself that there is no gravity and that the control of your motion is up to you. This is how many people first take to the sky.
    .
    Flying
Now you can levitate off of the ground. The next part may come easily, but then again, it may not. Remember, practice makes perfect. If you can levitate straight up, simply imagine yourself levitating in another direction. You may take some time before you can figure out how to move quickly, but it will come with practice. Stopping at will may also take some practice, your mind may produce momentum, just like gravity, you have to realize that momentum only exists because you are making it exist.

    Other Tips.

    • Don't fly too fast - Flying fast may blur things together and destabilized the dream.
    • Don't fly too high - Like flying too fast, being up high causes lack of detail and thus might destabilize your dream.
    • Focus on where you're going - In order for a destination to exist, it requires your attention.
    • Don't get frustrated - Flying does take some practice, but everyone can do it.
    • There is no spoon - Remember that everything in your dream requires your permission to exist. This includes gravity; forget gravity and it doesn't exist.
