WAYS OF SERVICE IN THE WORLD TODAY BY WHITE EAGLE

May we be united in love, recognising that our neighbour, wherever his path of approach, in common with ourselves desires to find God and therefore to serve.

We also recognise in thankfulness the service which those in the world of spirit render to humanity, for there are those unseen brethren who are ever seeking a channel through which they can serve the great plan of evolution. Let us remember also the angelic brotherhood and the service they render to humanity. In thinking of brotherhood we must ever think of the whole great brotherhood of angels and of men. Let us also remember the service rendered to man by the humbler brethren of the animal and nature kingdoms.

As soon as man aspires to the higher realms and opens the spiritual centre within his heart (as well as that within his brain), he can be used increasingly in service, becoming a channel through which the wiser powers, so gentle and yet so perfect in method, will make contact with man. Throughout the ages the Brethren of White Light have come to man clothed in differing forms, in different personalities, in order to draw aside the veil and to reveal to those ready to receive, knowledge of the universal powers which can be tapped by those who can open the secret chamber of the heart. In this age of Aquarius upon which mankind is entering much will be revealed; and with this revelation will come the need to learn discrimination - to discriminate between the true and false. Through diligent and humble search will man find that which he seeks.

When you look out upon world conditions you see much cruelty, violence and disease - conditions resulting from impurity within the soul of humanity. But remember, all suffering originates from a divine Law broken by man in his greedy search for self-expression. In the long process of his evolution man has long concentrated upon self as he journeys upward and necessarily so. He had to become self-conscious but self-consciousness will give place in time to God-consciousness and this has three main modes of expression - power, wisdom and love.

The power aspect is that which has and will continue to force man onward and upward towards soul-growth. At present this growth often betrays itself into a love of power, a quest for power for its own sake; much evil results from misuse of power. But after a certain stage of evolution there awakens another aspect in man to bridle or transmute the power aspect of his being and this is the love or wisdom aspect. . . . The Christ within begins to shine.

Many today long to find a way of service, so that they can help to relieve suffering and help the younger brethren towards harmony and happiness. The path is not easy to find at first and being found, is difficult to walk steadfastly. There is so much to confuse the aspirant and having found his path, so much to draw him off it. How is the path to be found? First be entering the chamber within, and praying for wisdom. When presently the light comes, it will not be due to intellect alone, but will be born from the heart.

How is a soul ensnared in the entanglements of mind and body ever to find this inner light and then be sure that it has found truth? One thing is essential - purity of life. What do we mean by purity of life? Asceticism? A withdrawal from contact with all worldliness? No; for we have now reached the next spiral of evolution and the aspirant today is not concerned with a monastic or ascetic life as of old, but is rather called to mix with humanity, to carry light into the world and into the minds of all those he encounters. It is this light burning brightly in the man, which brings healing and comfort. By purity we mean purity of all the vehicles, or bodies - the mental body (the thinking body), the desire body (the feeling body), and of course the physical body. In regard to the physical body we do not advise sudden or drastic changes in the life habits; but consider well the words that follow about man's responsibility towards the animal kingdom. Those who love God's creatures cannot slay wantonly. All cruelty is abhorent to them. Sometimes indeed the animals must serve in the only way they can so serve, by rendering up their life in order to feed man. But take thought - with so many pure and life giving foods from Mother Earth as alternatives, is it still necessary to slay and eat your brother animal?

Our way of service, then is ever to express love towards the animal kingdom, not aggressively but gently, both by thought and by example. It is not enough to say, "I cannot bear to witness cruelty!" Set about doing your part to bring about a gentle and compassionate way of life, influenced from within, mentally contributing a forbearance, a love that will help to replace cruelty with kindness. Refuse to accept with complacence the habits and customs by which men still exploit the weak and helpless.

We look with sadness upon the world-wide suffering inflicted by man on his fellow man . . .. and no country is innocent. For instance we see cruelty and oppression inflicted upon the coloured races. Can you endorse or participate in the antagonism still all too common between the brothers of the white, the brown or red skin? We look to the day when men of all races will spontaneously love and accept each other regardless of the colour of the skin. Remember - no man is your enemy; all alike are your teachers. Your obligation is to help all men upwards towards the light by the love in your heart.

We have referred to the purification of man's subtler bodies. Purity does not result alone from a change of diet - nor is this the only way. It is more important still to aspire continually in thought, to refuse to look critically or despairingly upon either individuals or a suffering world; ever to know that God reigns omnipotent, that His laws are absolute. His love infinite and that all must work together for good for him who loves God.

Thought is a powerful instrument for good or evil. Thoughts of fear, depression, greed, unforgiving thought, all create darkness; but thoughts which go forth vibrating light and love build a bridge between earth and heaven and so bring about a closer contact with beings on higher planes. These pure, good thoughts create light, and they attract pure and noble companions of your spirit to help you. Your thoughts of love and light enable these beings to reach you.

If you would serve humanity, you should try to live harmoniously, moderately, purely; the body should be sustained by the pure fruits and grains and produce of Mother Earth; continual ablutions should become a daily habit, for if the body is unclean, neglected or over-driven, it becomes useless for the work of the Elder Brethren. Your thought should be centred on God, on all that is good. If we ask too much at first, then aspire to overcome the lower instincts gradually, so that in time you attain these great ends.

A closing thought on the power to heal. In the new age which approaches man will increasingly recognise the value of colour as a healing agent and will use coloured healing rays, which work upon a patient's etheric body, through certain sensitive points in the body. Healing by this method was practised in the past and the secrets of the past are now being revealed to those who are ready to use them. But purity of both the subtler and physical bodies of the healer is essential for the reception of these rays.

The Master Jesus fully demonstrated powers of healing which were called 'miracles' because the method employed was unknown to the majority. But Jesus said, the Father that dwelleth in me, he doeth the works, stressing the need for the complete subjugation of the self. May it also be your constant aspiration to sink the baser self; to recognise increasingly the wisdom, the power and the love of the universal life-force, ever waiting to use you and to make of you. the perfect instrument, even as are the masters - the masters whom you mistakenly tend to worship, forgetting that they also are but instruments and of themselves are nothing.

The Great White Light of God, shining behind and through all things is the only reality. All else is illusion. Serve your brother man by calling forth the tiny light implanted within his breast; do what you can to releive the sufferings of the oppressed everywhere; work for the obliteration of cruelty to all animals. Live, yourself, a pure and simple and humble life, judging no man, but loving all. This is service.

We ask all brethren to make a very special effort each day and each magical hour (3, 6, 9 and 12) to hold in thought the blazing golden star. It is to the star that humanity must look; follow where the star leads you. Rise above the entanglements of the lower mind and the material world and steadfastly and positively concentrate your hearts upon the blazing star above you. Look right into it, feel yourselves being drawn into it and you will then be working in harmony with the great White Brotherhood.

Need we tell you again of the importance of the human link? In the world of spirit we cannot work of effectively without the human instrument. It is through incarnated man that we help all mankind. Your thoughts, your one-pointedness, your concentration on God and the Christ spirit are all-important in our work.
